Contributor Bio: Lisa Benson
Leveraging her background as a visual artist and storyteller, Lisa works to dismantle the stigma surrounding invisible illness. Her work focuses on visual arts and patient-centric advocacy. She was a contributor to Migraine.com for ten years and has published two books on art and illness: “Dear Migraine: Migraine and headache inspired essays, poems and art by 64 contributors” and “Be Here and Love You,” a posthumous collaboration with her mother Kathleen Shure. She has also spoken at Retreat Migraine, facilitated mindfulness and creativity events for Miles for Migraine, and advocated in DC at Headache on the Hill. She has found that balancing the world of art, the joys of parenting, and managing chronic illness requires equal parts precision, patience, and cappuccinos.
