I just discovered this forum, and have enjoyed reading the posts. It's nice to see I'm not alone!

I was 13 years old when I got my first migraine. Gym class, playing volleyball, and there was a sudden change in my vision, giving me the "camera flash" effect. A blind spot, shimmering in my right eye. 45 minutes later I was in the nurse's office, with horrible nausea and and a headache of indescribable pain. The aura went away in an hour, the headache in about seven hours.

I take Depakote and carry an Imitrex epi-pen. Imitrex has saved my life. It completely elminates the mirgraine if I catch it in time.

What is strange, though, is that the actual headache symptoms have changed in the past five years. Instead of the standard blind-spot, I now get an errie feeling of deja-vu, and almost like a seizure before the headache comes... has anybody had this experience?

Welcome to the forum! I'm glad you find it helpful.

Auras can take all sorts of strange forms. I sometimes get really hyper beforehand; my husband usually gets an "out of it" feeling. Some of the odd symptoms are listed here under "prodrome": http://www.thedailyheadache.com/2006/12 ... ympto.html

Still, it is important to see a doctor whenever your symptoms change. Just to rule out something else that might be happening.

Take care,
Kerrie

My migraines started with a head injury, but I can agree that they change over time. Initially they were very sudden, severe and induced nausea. Now they begin with pressure and a 'loopy' feeling. Next comes the dull pain and 'sparkly' dots in the right eye. After that is the 'bring you to your knees' and 'feels like a steel rod has been jammed through my cranium' sort of pain.

Go see the MD and tell him/her of your change. Probably though it's just the natural progression of things but it's safer to get yourself checked out.

My migraine patterns have changed over the years. I have frequently noticed a feeling of unreality, sort of like I'm detached from everything and looking at life from a distance. It's really hard to describe. That feeling seems to go along with a difficulty in speaking. Come to think of it, I haven't felt that way recently, but it was common for me in the past.

I have never had the visual auras, but almost always have mental confusion before and with my migraines. One time I was driving near my home, and I kept missing turns and then turning down wrong streets. It was really weird, but I just couldn't seem to go the right way, on a totally familiar road. A couple of hours later I came down with a really bad migraine, so my wrong way driving must have been an aura before the headache.

Wow...that must be scary. I will occaisionally get a blind spot, then a migraine. I can honestly say that I have never had a true aura. I will tell you that my migraines are always changing. I can guarantee certain things will trigger it but even if I get it right the next day. I will most likely have another migraine. I have be suffering with these for 14 years. They have gone from daily headaches to a migraine once a week, to a migraine almost everyday. I didn't start taking real migraine medication until I was almost about to deliver my first son 3 1/2 years ago. Now, I have tried literally every medicine and supplement for releif. Unfortunately, those that I do find that work, stops working and I have to move on to something else. Anyways, this is your story...I apologize, I am just soo happy to finally have people to talk to. My husband doesn't beleive in the severity of this disabling thing. I hope that you can find something that will help.
