Kerrie’s Life: Taking a Break

The last six (or 12 or 18…) have been tough. I’m physically and mentally exhausted from being sick, my dad being sick, and life’s general requirements. I’m taking a break. A two-month break to be exact. Hart has a sabbatical from work and we’ll be on vacation from now until mid-July. We both desperately need to get away and relax.

I couldn’t leave The Daily Headache in a lurch, of course. I’ve written and scheduled a lot of posts for the next couple months. Megan Oltman of Free My Brain From Migraine Pain and Marijke Durning from Help My Hurt have graciously volunteered to manage the blog while I’m away. Forum members Deborah and MJ will make sure everything runs smoothly there.

What’s that? You want to know where I’m going? A week in the South Pacific to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary is the first destination. On the way home, we’ll stop in Phoenix to visit family. We’ll spend June in Alaska. Our best friends will be here the first 10 days of July, then Hart’s sister and brother-in-law are coming for a week. It will be busy, but we’re good at doing nothing on vacation!

Oh, wow! A two-month break sounds wonderful, and I’m excited for you, Kerrie. And, I’m sad for myself because I just discovered your blog a few short weeks ago and will really miss your insights and the information that you share.

I took a mindfulness-based stress reduction class a few years back and have recently been trying to re-incorporate this practice back into my life and schedule. So it was with great joy that I discovered your comments on this topic. I also got really choked up reading “Where Have I Gone?” because your thoughts felt really, painfully familiar.

I hope you have a very relaxing break. And, I’ll look forward to your return in July.

In June, my family is going on a cruise to Bermuda with my parents and our best friends. My husband and I are celebrating our 25th anniversary. When we’ve cruised before, I’ve slept better and generally felt better due to the lack of stress (even with having the 4 of us in a tiny cabin). To ease my mind, I’m going to have my doctor write a prescription for the shot of Dilaudid and Phenergan I need for the most horrendous migraines. Thankfully, seasickness has never been a problem except when I had a migraine. Maybe when you return, you can tell us what kind of health-related preparations you usually make for travel. For example, I take every med I could possibly need, my heating pad, heat pack, ice pack, TheraCane, eye cover, books to read at bedtime, etc. I’ll miss your usual posts. Have a wonderful, fun, and stress-free vacation.

Alison – have no fear, though we’ll all miss Kerrie, she has new posts lined up (I think a couple per week) for the whole time she’s gone. So there will still be lots of fresh content between now and July. I will do my best to answer questions in the meantime. So glad you found the site!
