Coping

Ravaged

The night-striking migraines continue. I’ve had one every night since my last post on them — I’m up to 10 of 11 nights. Since Thursday, the pain has been controlling my days too. I woke up 40 minutes ago and my pain is at a 6.

More impairing than the pain, is that I feel spent. Walking is an effort, my arms are heavy, typing fatigues my fingers, thinking is nearly impossible. Plundered, pillaged, devastated, wasted. Whatever you want to call it, the migraines have overtaken my body and my mind.

  1. My name is Christina. I have had complicated migraines (aura, slurred speech, numbness on 1 side of the body) my whole life, I am only 28. Recently I have been getting ones during the night. They start about 10:30 PM. At first I only got 1 a night. Now they come all night long about every half hour to an hour until 6 AM. They feel as though my brain is cramping up for about 10-30 seconds. Does anyone else get these and if so do you treat them and has anything been successful. I am so desperate. thanks.

I’m so sorry; your headaches sound terrible. Unfortunately, I’ve never had something like that happen, so I can’t help much. I wish you the best of like in finding a treatment.

  2. I’m very sorry this is happening to you. I know how night migraines can make you feel totally wrecked. One thing that sometimes helps me is Soma. My headache doc prescribes it. It’s a muscle relaxer. It makes me pretty drowsy if I use it during the day, but sometimes I have to anyway. At night it puts me to sleep, or BACK to sleep if pain woke me up, and also helps with the pain.
    Best of luck!

  3. My last medication – Effexor – made my headaches worse and it was causing me to wake up in the middle of the night and be up from about 2 until 5:30. So, not only was I in more pain, but I was exhausted. This went over for the two months I was on the medication. I was begging my doctor to take me off of it because the pain is one thing, but the two together is EVEN WORSE! Thankfully, as of last week, I no longer take Effexor. Even so, I left work last week and went home and slept for 5.5 hours! So, I’m so sorry to hear about what you’re going through! I hope you feel better soon!!

  4. I hear you! I’m at about day 8. I’m starting to lose count. I feel like I could sleep for a week. Hell.. I feel like I’ve been AWAKE for a week.

Total zombie land. And because people can’t SEE that you are sick, they don’t really understand.

  5. I’m so sorry you’re going through such a prolonged period of “night-striking migraines.” You’re in my thoughts and prayers.
